Running Start Information Meetings:  Meetings for interested students and parents for Running Start will be held at BBCC at the ATEC Building—Room 1870A beginning at 6:30 p.m.   There will also be Spanish-speaking sessions.  The date for the last meeting is:  May 29th.

Math Placement Tests/Foreign Language Tests (UW):  Students planning on attending the UW next fall need to take a Math Placement Test and for many, a Foreign Language Test.  Tests begin May 2nd through June 28th at different college locations for Math.  The Language test is held only at the UW.  See me for a schedule and additional information.  The Math test at CWU is June 24th for Math. 

Eastern Washington University 4th Annual Latino Conference:  The Chicano Education Program is inviting students and their parents to a one day conference to find out about attending EWU and the support available.  Sessions are offered in English and Spanish.  Lunch and live entertainment will be provided to over 250 parents and students.  The date is Wednesday, May 7th. 

Junior Statesman:  Any outstanding high school student graduating after 2008 may apply for admission to the Junior Statesmen Summer School.  U.S. citizenship is not required, but excellent command of the English language, both written and oral, is necessary.  Programs are at four prestigious universities—Georgetown, Princeton, Yale, and Stanford.  The summer school provides advanced college curriculum for students who aspire to a career in politics or public service.  There are scholarships available if you choose to apply.  See me for more information or an application form.  You may also go online at:  www.jsa.org/summer08.  Applications and nonrefundable $50.00 deposits are due Feb. 28th for a 10% tuition discount.  A 5% discount is available for those received by March 28, 2008.  All application materials must be submitted by May 16, 2008.

Washington State University Cougar Quest:  Students entering grades 9-12 in the fall of 2008 are invited to apply for a summer program at WSU.  This is an academic camp where 27 different workshops are offered.  Students may attend three workshops per day over a four-day period.  The dates for high school students are July 20-25th.  If you have questions, see me for a sample of workshops and more information.  Or, you may call (509) 335-1235 or visit the website at:  www.cougarquest.wsu.edu

Explore your Future at R.I.T:  R.I.T. (Rochester Institute of Technology in NY), has a summer program for students with hearing loss.  There are two sessions to choose from:  July 19-24 or July 26-31st.  Students will gain hands-on experience in a variety of careers, get a taste of college life, and make new friends from all over the country.  If you are interested, go to the website at:  www.rit.edu/NTID/EYF  for more information.  You may also call at 1-866-644-6843 (toll-free and voice/TTY).  The program fee is $650.00, which includes room, board and activities.  See me if you would like more information.  This program is for high school students who will begin their junior or senior year in fall 2008.
