A. Essential Academic Learning Requirements:

a) Communication:

  1. To use listening and observation skills to gain understanding.
  2. To communicate ideas clearly and effectively.
  3. To use communication strategies and skills to work effectively with others.
  4. To analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of formal and informal communication.

b) Reading:

  1. To understand and use different skills and strategies to read.
  2. To understand the meaning of what is read.
  3. To read different materials for a variety of purposes.
  4. To set goals and evaluate progress to improve reading.

c) Writing:

  1. To write clearly and effectively.
  2. To write in a variety of forms for different audiences.
  3. To understand and use the steps of the writing process.
  4. To analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of written work.

C. Unit Three: The Basic Elements of Writing

  1. Writing Sentences
  2. Writing Paragraphs
  3. Writing Basic Essays
  4. Forms of Writing

D. Unit Four: The Writing Process

  1. Prewriting: Choosing a Subject and Gathering Details
  2. The First Draft: Connecting Ideas
  3. Revising: Improving our Writing
  4. Editing and Proofreading: Checking for Style and Accuracy
  5. Publishing: Sharing our Work
